Eric Alan Copsey, 57, of Ruggles, died on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at his home. Eric was born in New London, OH, on September 10, 1965, the son of Fred and Dorothy (Moffit) Copsey. Eric was a 1984 graduate of Mapleton High School.

Eric was the person everyone called when they needed help. He was a doer, a fixer, and a giver of sound advice. He rarely sat still; he always was working on something. "Drive safe, kid," he said to his daughters every time they left the house, long after they had kids of their own. He loved being Papaw and was so proud of each of his grandkids, loving to watch a game or hear about an accomplishment. Eric was happiest in the woods, especially when taking his grandsons hunting, or around a campfire. He was patient and loyal and had a distinctive laugh, ridiculous in the best way, that made everyone laugh with him.

Eric is survived by his wife, Susan (Oakley) Copsey and children, Hillary (Mike) Canan of Cincinnati and Lexi (Ben) Parks of Polk; grandchildren Lane and Shaw Dreibelbis, Rhys and Wes Canan, Evie and Dell Parks; mother, Dorothy Copsey; brother, Rick (Nancy) Copsey of Michigan; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Eric was preceded in death by his father, Fred Copsey; siblings, Mary Pay, Linda Simmons and Jim Copsey.

A celebration of life will be held at the Hileman Building, 2 Blake St. New London on Saturday, September 24, 2022, from 2 to 6 p.m. Memorial donations may be directed to the Ashland County Wildlife Conservation League, 1930 County Road 1035, Ashland, OH.
