Esther S. Lowrey, 89, of Wellington died Friday, February 1, 2008 at Wellington Manor Nursing Home surrounded by her family. She was born August 29, 1918 in Greenwich and was a graduate of New London High School. Esther had resided in Wellington most of her life and many people in the past would see Esther uptown on her bicycle since she never drove a car.
She was a member of the Wellington Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wellington. Esther liked gardening and loved to cook and bake. She enjoyed taking care of her family and spending time with her grandchildren. Esther also loved her cats and dogs.
Survivors include her three children, Sally Lowrey of Wellington, Mary Esther Lowrey of Kotzebue, Alaska, and C. Michael (Yensy) Lowrey of Wellington; 2 granddaughters, Karla and Valerie; and her sister, Alice Watts of Toledo. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Lowrey; her parents, Grant Ulyssis and Susan (nee Mickey) Crabbs; three brothers, Sterling, Benjamin, and Hugh; and four sisters, Madge, Marjorie, Ruth, and Helen.
Friends may call from 1pm until the time of funeral service at 2 pm on Monday, February 4 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. Ruth Campbell will officiate the service and burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington.
