Obituary

Eunice Ann DeVies, 92, of Pittsfield Township, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022, at St Mary of the Woods in Avon. Born on July 4, 1929, in Oberlin, and raised on the family farm in New Russia Township, Eunice was the daughter of the late Raymond and Nellie (nee Worcester) Reisinger.

Eunice was a 1947 graduate of Oberlin High School. During her high school years she was a varsity cheerleader, as well as participating in GAA, annual staff, fine arts, and served as an office assistant.

She was introduced to her future husband by friends after he returned home from his service to the US Navy in 1946. Eunice was married to Richard on October 9, 1949, at the First Methodist Church in Oberlin.

For the next five decades, she joined her husband in the operation and management of the farm in which he was a partner with the Breyley family. Eunice was especially proud of the fact that the multi-generational farm was recently able to reach century farm status signifying 100 years of continuous operation.

Eunice treasured her grandchildren and great grandchildren; she was always attentive, enjoyed teaching recipes and sending cards to them.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Wellington. She also held memberships with the Deborah Circle and the Farm Bureau. Eunice and Richard especially enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida with a group of beloved friends from the area, with whom she had enjoyed a lifelong friendship.

She is survived by her loving children, Diane (Tom) Hinkle, Douglas DeVies, and Dennis DeVies; 4 grandchildren, Ryan, Thadd, Colby, and Jourdan; 12 great grandchildren, Savannah, Riley, Aurora, Corrine, Callum, Kaitlyn, Kerstan, Tristan, Landen, Isabella, Katarina, and Josephine; and her beloved sister, Linda Hanmer. Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Richard and her sister, Jean McConnell.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, February 7, from 4-7 p.m. and Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington, where Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Paul Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Pittsfield Cemetery.
