Evelyn R. Crow, 89, of Ashland died, Monday, January 11, 2010 at Samaritan Regional Health System of Ashland after a sudden illness. She was born March 21, 1920 to the late Adam and Allie (nee Pope) Hilty in Pandora, OH and has resided in Ashland County since 1959.
Evelyn graduated from Pandora High School in 1938 and Bluffton College in 1942. She taught at Pandora High School for 2 years, Cory-Rawson Elementary for a year and taught second grade at Black River Local Schools for 27 years where she retired in 1985.
She dedicated her life after retirement to volunteering at Samaritan Hospital, Council on Aging with Meals on Wheels, Ashland Chamber of Commerce and the American Red Cross. After many years of her dedication to the community she was honored to receive the 1999 Ashland County Women of Achievement Award. She was a member of the Nova Community United Methodist Church. Evelyn enjoyed music, reading and spectator sports.
Survivors include her four loving children, Georgia (Charles) Daria of Bethel, OH, Ted (Michal) Crow of Ashland, Nick (Jean) Crow of Nova and Sheila (Randy) Ruppert of Columbus. She was also blessed with 13 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle and a brother, Wayne Hilty.
Friends and family will be received from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, January 15 at Eastman Funeral Home, New London and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Brother Harry Finkbone officiating. Burial will follow at Ruggles Cemetery.
