F. Pauline 'Polly' Withrow, age 80, of Wellington died Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Elyria Memorial Hospital. Born on September 6, 1928, to the late Charles and Opal Byrd, Ms. Withrow lived in Radford, VA before moving to Dayton in 1953. She moved to the Cleveland area in 1974 and had been a Wellington resident since 1997.
During WWII, Pauline volunteered her services for the U.S. Army. Pauline also volunteered for the Dayton Red Cross and the Gray Ladies. Ms. Withrow worked in administrative and clerical positions. She was a member of the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, and Presbyterian churches in Dayton and the Cleveland area.
Polly loved music, and especially enjoyed singing, dancing and traveling. She treasured the time she spent with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed attending horse racing events. One of the most endearing quality that Polly possessed was her desire to help and care for others, especially the less fortunate. She always had an open door and an open heart.
Survivors include her two sons, Murray 'Mickey' Withrow of Penfield and Scott (Patti) Withrow of Midland, MI; 11 grandchildren, Heidi, Jason, Jamie, Jessa, Emily, Hunter, Heather, Ryan, Amy, Murray and Evan; and 3 great grandchildren. Pauline was preceded in death by a daughter, Terri Lou and a son, Frank Elliot.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, September 15 from 3-5 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. at the Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Wellington, 127 Park Place, Wellington with Rev. Lea Mahan officiating.
