Faith I. Giar, 85, of Wellington, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at the Elms Nursing Home after a short illness. Faith was the daughter of the late Otto and Olive (nee Yoder) Allen; she was born on October 11, 1923 in Wadsworth. Faith grew up in Spencer and was a 1942 Spencer High School graduate. She moved to Wellington in the late 1950s.
Along with her husband, Faith owned and operated a dry cleaning business in Wellington and she continued to manage the business on her own after his death. She also worked for Guilford/Ciba-Geigy as a technician before retiring in the early 1990s.
Faith sang with a trio on the radio and often performed at parties. She was an avid reader and a crossword puzzle enthusiast. Faith kept a beautiful lawn.
Survivors include her son, Michael and his wife, Sally, of Wellington; a grandson, Andrew Kay (Cara) of Staten Island, NY; and three great grandchildren, Emma, Jordan and Logan. Faith is also survived by her brother, Frank Allen of Denver, CO and her caregiver, Terry Somerville of Ashland. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Giar; and her siblings, Dale, Thelma, Nina, Della, Dwight and Warren.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 1 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. A private burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington. Donations in memory of Faith can be made to the donor's favorite charity.
