Floyd Lee 'Carp' Carpenter, 92, of New London, died Monday, July 14, 2008 at the Firelands Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, New London. He was born September 20, 1915 in Clarksfield Twp., son of the late Edwin Frank and Lucille (Nichols) Carpenter. He had lived in the Olena area for 60 years. Carp had served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 5th Army Artillery Gunner. He worked construction for several area contractors. Carp was a mechanic at Norwalk Truckline and at Interstate Motorfreight. He retired in 1980 from the former Wicks Lumber in Norwalk as a salesman. He was a member of the Agricultural Heritage of Huron County, Inc. at the Huron County Fairgrounds, a life member of the Norwalk V.F.W. Post 2743 and the North Fairfield American Legion #708.
He is survived by 3 daughters, Kaylene (Dan) Brundage of Hampton, Virginia, Diane (Dale) Seel of Bellevue, Rachel (Jack) Harner of New London; 1 son, Dennis (Cathy) Carpenter of New London; 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret L. Carpenter in 1999, his brother, George Carpenter, his sister, Mary King.
Friends may call from 6 - 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London, Ohio where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday. Burial with full military rites will follow at the Olena Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be given to the Agricultural Heritage of Huron County, Inc., c/o of the Huron County Fairgrounds, 940 Fair Rd., Norwalk, Ohio 44857 or to the Olena Community Clubin care of the funeral home,or to the donors favorite charity.
