Obituary

Floyd Maurice Miller, 92, of New London, died Thursday, September 15, 2011 at The Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Firelands, New London. Born October 22, 1918, in Edison, OH and lived most of his life in New London. He was a 1936 graduate of New London High School. He attended Ashland College. He graduated with a degree as a draftsman plus a tool and die engineer. Floyd worked at Miller Brothers Grocery, F.E. Myers Pump, Fate Root Heath Company, Ohio Body Manufacturing and New London Auto Parts. He also maintained the Grove Street Cemetery for over 25 years. Floyd was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, New London and the New London American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army and Army Air Corps during WWII and the Army Air Corps Reserve. Floyd was also very proud to have attended flight school, receive his pilots license and fly for many years. Survivors include his children, Tootie (Dale) Grospitch of New London, Marcia (Richard) Torp of South Haven, MI and Dennis (Dawn) Miller of Lousville, OH; grandchildren, Wendy (Brian) Batdorf, Eric (Lisa) Coey, Shannon (Jim) Horvath, Jodi (Josh) Wright and Dana Torp; great-grandchildren, Austin, Hayden and Carson Coey and Benjamin and Kaylyn Horvath; special great-grandchildren (not by blood, but by loving heart and soul), Ashley Anderson and Megan Belomy. He is also survived by a great-great grand child, Aiden Richard Torp. Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret 'Madge;' son, Barry Lee Miller; father, Clarence Lee Miller; mother, Anna Lajessa Eccles; stepfather, James J. Eccles and brothers, Harvey Collins and Dale Charles Miller. Visitation will be held at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London on Sunday, September 18 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Immediately following visitation at 3 p.m., a service will be held at Eastman's Funeral home, with Father Doug Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, New London. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH, 44870.
