IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frank
Abbey
September 28, 1953 – January 12, 2024
Frank Abbey, 70, of Wellington, died Friday, January 12, 2024 at home surrounded by a host of friends and family. Born on September 28, 1953 in Elyria, he was the son of the late Frank and Dora (nee Hopkins) Abbey. Frank grew up in the Grafton area and was a 1973 graduate of Elyria High School. He moved to Wellington in 1996.
A proud tradesman, Frank worked as a plumber for 30 years. In 2000 he became a plumbing instructor at the Lorain County JVS, retiring in 2015. As an instructor, Frank would take students to state and national competitions in plumbing. Frank was an active member of the Brighton Congregational Church where he held various positions and served on many committees. Scouting became a big part of Frank's life and he served in numerous positions, including as Cub Master of Pack 440, Assistant Scout Master with Troop 414, troop committee member, a camp commissioner at Firelands Scout Reservation, a merit badge counselor, and an Eagle Scout counselor. One of his favorite activities was helping make chili and working the scouts chili sale at the Engine Show.
Frank loved to take trips with his family, especially to Canada where they would go fishing. He was a big history buff and always said he had "a head full of useless information". He enjoyed tending his garden and then canning what was grown. In the kitchen, Frank liked to serve as the sous chef for Carolyn. Most of all he cherished time with his loving family. Frank will be remembered for his service to others, his dedication to his ideals, and all of his dad jokes.
Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Carolyn (nee Driver); sons, Franklin (Carrie) Abbey, of Wellington, and Tyler (Courtney) Abbey, of South Amherst; grandchildren, Connor, Franklin, Emmalynn, Everett, and Lane; sisters, Shelly Tanner and Patty Trombetta; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends Darrel French and Ken Dumke. Frank was preceded in death by sisters, Ella Kocsis, Janis Stegman, and Gretchen Abbey.
Friends and Family will be received on Wednesday, January 17, from 4-7 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St, Wellington, and again on Thursday from 10 a.m.until the time of services beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor John Burgess will officiate.
