Obituary

Fred McConnell, 69, of Wellington, passed away on March 30, 2016 at the Cleveland Clinic after a lengthy illness. He was born on February 21, 1947 in Oberlin to the late Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (nee Whitney) McConnell. Fred was a dairy farmer for most of his life and was a life-long resident of Pittsfield Township. Fred was an active member of East Oberlin Community Church. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1965 and then served in the US Navy from 1968-1972. Fred also attended OSU and was an avid Buckeye fan. He was a member of Ultra Vetts Inc, Southeast ATV/UTV Riders association, Country Road Sams, the Farm Bureau and Wellington Eagles. He enjoyed attending Cleveland sporting events, camping, skiing, riding ATV's, and motorcycles, spending winters in Florida & spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary J. (nee Muraco) McConnell; daughters, Sarah and Melissa; sister, Betty (Larry) Hurst; and nieces and nephews. Friends and family will be received on Sunday, April 3, for a visitation from 3-7 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington. Services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at East Oberlin Community Church, 43709 Oberlin Elyria Rd, Oberlin, with Pastor Chris Vough officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to East Oberlin Community Church or Helping Hearts Fund (assists Cleveland Clinic heart transplant patients).
