Fremon Hamilton, 87, of Ashland and formerly of Greenwich, passed unto his new life Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Metro Health Medical Center, Cleveland after a short illness. He was born December 19, 1925 in Floyd County, Kentucky, son of the late Joe and Frances (Akers) Hamilton. He and his father Joe founded and ran J&F Bargain Center. Fremon and his wife ran Circle H Motel and Hamilton Realty all of Greenwich. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 81mm Mortar Platoon, 42nd Rainbow Division and 242nd Infantry. Fremon served for 2 years, 1944-45 in France, Germany, Austria. He was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star.
Survived by sons, Randy Hamilton of Ashland, Ernie (Mary) Hamilton of Greenwich; daughter-in-law, Penny Hamilton of Ashland; son in law, Curt Newsome; 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren who he absolutely loved. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melvina Hamilton, son Freeman Hamilton and daughter, Carol Newsome.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. Monday, February 13th until the time of service at 7 pm at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London with Senior Minister Scot Myers officiating. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Davidson Memorial Garden in Ivel, Kentucky with military rites.
