Norwalk, Ohio - Gary W. Gilbert, 67, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019, in Fisher-Titus Medical Center. He was born July 31, 1951, in Willard, Ohio, to the late Chester and Dolly (Oney) Gilbert. Gary attended Greenwich Elementary School, and moved to the Norwalk area as a youth. He attended Norwalk High School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, during the Vietnam War, serving on the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy. Gary was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Norwalk, Ohio, and was a former employee of Norb's Marathon, G.E. in Bellevue, Ohio, R & L Carriers, and American Excelsior of Norwalk, Ohio. He was a member of the Norwalk Eagles Club. Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing, square and line dancing, spending time with his grandchildren, and family get-togethers. He also enjoyed the solitude and beauty of the outdoors. Gary is survived by his children, Jennifer L. (Chris) Bly of Norwalk, Ohio, Scott L. Gilbert of Norwalk, Ohio, Jason M. Oney of Norwalk, Ohio, and Bradley J. (Jaime) Gilbert of Norwalk, Ohio. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Gabby, Ethan, Carly, Aiden, Jacob, Colin, Cohen, and Grayson, and by his siblings, Joyce (Elmer) Hall of Greenwich, Ohio, Audrey (James) Harvey of Norwalk, Ohio, Lonnie (Cathy) Gilbert of Greenwich, Ohio, Helen Olmacher of Norwalk, Ohio, and Sharon Barr of Kingsport, Tennessee, and numerous nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah S. (Schaffer) Gilbert in 2014, and by his brother, Stanley Gilbert in 2015. Friends may call on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary Cemetery, Norwalk. Msgr. Kenneth Morman will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gilbert family.
