Gary Lee Jones, age 60, passed away at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk on February 22, 2016.
Born on September 8, 1955, he grew up in Greenwich and later moved to New London. Gary graduated from South Central High School and had also attended Ashland University and Terra Tech.
Gary worked at New London Tile and Magic Chef / Whirlpool. He was the owner of Jones Water Hauling for nearly 20 years.
He was a member of the Cherokee Nation and a lifetime member of the NRA.
Gary was a man of strong faith and he enjoyed listening to the sermons of Pastor Joe Foecht. He found peace riding his Harley Davidson and working at the Corner Store. He was proud of his Cherokee heritage. Gary was a generous man that went out of his way to do things for other people. He didn't talk about it much but he was also talented at writing poetry. Gary was a loyal fan of Cleveland sports teams... even the bad ones. He especially enjoyed watching the Browns, Cavs and Buckeyes.
He is survived by his children, Joanna Hare of Georgia, James (Michelle) Jones of Philadelphia, PA, Jennifer (Russell) Back of Greenwich, and Jacqueline (Eddie) Hatfield of Collins; grandchildren, Kelsey, Taylour, Calissa, Lee, Isaiah, Cierra, Nathanyal, Adrionna, Russ Jr., Austin, Savanna and Alivia; mother, Edna Jones of Greenwich and brothers, Donald Jones of MO, Bradley Jones of Galion and Aaron Jones of Greenwich. Gary is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald R. Jones; brother, Jonathan Jones and granddaughter, Autumn Ray Hare.
His family will greet family and friends Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 1-3 pm and 5-7 pm at Eastman Funeral Home, Greenwich. A service will be held Monday at 11 am with Pastor Greg Griffith officiating at the Willard Church of God. Burial to follow in Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery.
