Gary L. “Walter” Walker, 78, of Oberlin, died Friday, May 22, 2026, at the Cleveland Clinic after a brief illness. Born on April 15, 1948, in New London, he was the son of the late Harold and Irene (nee McMillen) Walker. Gary grew up in Greenwich and was a 1966 graduate of South Central High School.
Following graduation, Gary worked for Bacon Chevrolet in the autobody shop and then briefly for the railroad before moving to Wellington to work for the Village. He was a meter technician for the Village of Wellington for 42 years, retiring in 2016. Gary was twice the Worshipful Master of Wellington Masonic Lodge, where he was a member of the Scottish Rite. He was also a former member of the Wellington Volunteer Fire Department. Gary loved horses and cars; his cars were always the nicest and cleanest in town. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, and worked on the Gary and Anne Jordan Horse Farm for a number of years.
Gary is survived by his companion of 30 years, Brenda Sickles; children, Christa (Tim Hassinger) O’Brien, of Greenwich, and Tony (Crystal) Walker, of Medina; grandchildren, Zachary (Claire) and Brandon; great granddaughter, Lilah; siblings, Linda (Bill) Miller, and Ed (Roxanne) Walker, both of Norwalk; and his beloved dog Buddy.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, May 28, from 11 a.m. until the time of services beginning at 1 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington, a luncheon will follow and burial will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery, Greenwich at 4 p.m. Donations in Gary’s memory may be directed to the Friendship APL 8303 Murray Ridge Rd, Elyria, 44035.
