IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gayle Marlene
Laughrey
May 5, 1946 – July 26, 2025
Gayle Marlene Laughrey, 79, of LaGrange, died July 26, 2025, under the care of hospice. Born on May 5, 1946 in New Castle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Olive Huffman. Gayle grew up in Wampum, PA and was a graduate of Wampum High School. Gayle loved to sing and traveled throughout Pennsylvania in High School for choir competitions. Married Donald C. Laughrey on April 16, 1966 in Frostburg, Maryland. They raised their family in Beaver Falls, PA and moved to LaGrange, Ohio in 1988.
Gayle was primarily a homemaker throughout her life. As her sons got older, she worked at Blackhawk High School as a student aide. Later in life Gayle became an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Wellington where she served on the welcoming committee, greeting everyone with a hug or a handshake and her familiar warm smile. Gayle cherished the time she spent with family and friends. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed vacationing, was a fierce 500 card player, and more than anything she loved her children and grandchildren. Always up for an adventure with them.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Donald C. Laughrey; Sons, Michael, Larry (Sarah) and Charlie (Tricia) Laughrey; grandchildren, Marisa, Megan (Thomas), Melody, Michael Jr, Logan, Lauren, Samanatha, Benjamin, and Lillian; Siblings, Charles, Jim and Louise and many nieces and nephews. Gayle was preceded in death by her parents.
In a final act of compassion, Gayle donated her body to the Cleveland Clinic to aid in the research of Multiple Sclerosis. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be shared online at www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com.
