George H. Austin, 75, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2021 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
George was born on April 2, 1946 in Norwalk, OH to the late George and Lois (Blanton) Austin.
George graduated from Norwalk High School in 1964 and was a 1965 graduate of Hobart Welding School. He completed his apprenticeship with Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local 42. In 1968, he started his own company, Austin Power Equipment and also started KS Austin Company, a pipefitter and welding company in 1975.
One of George's biggest joys was joining the VFW 2743 Auxiliary and becoming the Americanism Chairman. He was very proud of his accomplishment of getting the Ohio State and National motto posters in all the Huron and Erie County Schools. George also was instrumental in placing stones outside of the Huron County Administration building, Huron County courthouse and Norwalk Police Department. Furthermore, with the assistance of his grandson, he was able to place the Ohio motto on the Norwalk police cars. The motto he was so proud of was, "With God, all things are possible".
George was the 2010 – 2011 President of the Milan Rotary Club. He also started the Constitution Essay program at Edison Schools and helped organize the Rotary interact at Edison High School. George was also a member of the Norwalk Elks, the Norwalk Eagles and the Berlin Heights Baptist Church.
In his spare time, George loved traveling on his Goldwing with his friends, designing and welding projects, reading and doing research. He also loved taking senior bus trips out west. His greatest joy of all was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
George is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Karen (Libbee) Austin, whom he married on November 29, 1980; children, Tara (Jim) Hancock and Tracy (Krista) Fowler, Pam (Rob) Arney and Cindy (Kareem) Choudhry; grandchildren, Tyler Hollis, Austin Hancock (serving in the USAF), Alex Hancock, Sydney Fowler, Marissa Fowler, Cameron Arney, Maverick Arney, Tanner Choudhry, Hunter Choudhry, Walker Choudhry and Summer Choudhry; 2 great-grandchildren, Owen and Liam; brothers, Steve (Rose) Austin and Dave (Terri) Austin; sisters, Kathy (Brian) Walters and Melanie (Allen) Burke and many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 13, 2021 from 10 am until the time of memorial service at 12 pm at the Berlin Heights Baptist Church, 85 East Main Street, Berlin Heights, OH. Pastor Shaun Cotterill will be officiating. Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral is assisting the family with arrangements.
