George Douglas Flury, age 78, of Nova, passed away at Samaritan Regional Health System in Ashland on Monday, July 4, 2016.
He was born on June 28, 1938 at his family's home in Columbia Station, Ohio, and later moved to the Nova area.
George was a master carpenter and worked at Westview Lumber in Olmstead Falls.
He and his wife Frances belonged to a group of friends that they referred to as "the Neighborhood Club" in Nova and Ruggles.
George, or "WJA8JW"as his call letters signaled, was an avid radio operator. He was a talented carpenter who enjoyed working at the saw mill and he liked to cut and stack wood. George always stayed busy and was seldom idle. He felt if he was sitting still that he was wasting time.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Frances (nee Spooner) Flury; sons, Bob (Sherry) Flury of Nova, Dennis Flury of Mansfield and Frank (Janet) Flury of Kentucky; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and siblings, Kathleen, Sue Plunske and David.
George was preceded in death by 2 sons, Douglas and Donald Flury; parents, George and Pauline (nee Lucas) Flury and 4 siblings, Mona, Bill, Paul and Norman.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016 from 10 am until the noon service at Eastman Funeral Home, New London with Brother Harry Finkbone officiating. Burial will follow in Nova Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
