Obituary

George Clement Greene, 91, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017 at his home-the same Brighton Township home where he was born February 16, 1926. His parents were Clement and Ruth (Peasley) Greene. George graduated from Brighton High School with the class of 1944. He and his wife June (Gleason) recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. George farmed in partnership with his brother and best friend Gordon Greene on the farm owned and operated by the Greene Family for well over 100 years. He enjoyed employment during the off season at the former Wellington Lumber. George was a life-long member of the Brighton Methodist Church where he and June were among the original members of the Couples Club. They also served as advisors for the Brighton Methodist Youth Fellowship group and were instrumental in the start-up and continued success of the church's Onion Ring Booth at the Lorain County Fair. George founded and was the advisor for the Brighton Nannies 4-H Club and was a member of the Livestock Sale Committee for the Lorain County Junior Fair. He served his community for many years as a Brighton Township Trustee while also on the Board of Trustees for the Rural Lorain County Water Authority where he held the office of Board President until shortly before his retirement. George and June enjoyed volunteering with Westwood Elementary School's Reading to Grandparent's program and with Well-Help, Inc. George is survived by his wife June (Gleason) Greene; his son, David (Maryle) Greene of Bellevue; his daughters Mary (Ken) Fenwick of Elyria, Becky (Craig) Norton of Brighton Township, Jody (Dr. William) Spreng of Wellington; granddaughters, Carol (Greene) Kelly, Janna (Greene) McPike, Carrie (Fenwick) Yohe, Stacy (Fenwick) Slack and Tabitha Spreng. He is also survived by great grandchildren Elizabeth and Rebecca Yohe, Gabe and Drew Kelly, Marisa and Sara Slack. His brother and sister-in-law Gordon and Ilarae Greene of Brighton Township. George was preceded in death by his parents Clement and Ruth Greene and sisters Virginia (C.P.) Blackman and Betty (Oscar) Share. Family and friends will be received on Friday August 4, 2017 from 6-8 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington and again on Saturday August 5, 2017 from 10-11 at Brighton United Methodist Church, 51011 State Route 18, Wellington where services will begin at 11am. Burial will take place at Brighton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Brighton United Methodist Church.
