Obituary

George William Joppeck, Sr., 84, of Wellington, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at University Hospitals of Cleveland. He was born November 4, 1927, in Cleveland, son to the late Max and Irene (nee Bader) Joppeck, Sr. George lived in Grafton and South Amherst before moving to Wellington. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. George worked at the Ford plant in Lorain for 30 years. George was a 38 year member of the New Life Assembly of God. He played on bowling leagues in Wellington and Oberlin. George enjoyed golf, gardening and loved to farm his 69 acres. Survivors include his wife, Vivian (nee Knepper), whom he married February 11, 1951; children, George (Violet) Joppeck, Jr. of Richwood, Sue Crites of Amherst, Sandra (Doug) Popejoy of San Antonio, TX, Debra (Mel) Yoder of Wakeman, John (Louise) Joppeck of Wellington, Dwayne (Kim) Joppeck of Saline, MI, Barbara Gray of Wellington, Sharon (Steve) Hill of Montpellier, Idaho and Donna (Steve) Zsigray of Grafton; 27 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and siblings, Sam Joppeck, Adelaide Schilling and Alice Hodges. George was preceded in death by his siblings, Max Joppeck, Paul Joppeck, Howard Joppeck, Dorothy Tuczynski, Lillian Joppeck, Frank Joppeck and Mildred Pierce. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 26 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the New Life Assembly of God, 108 West Street, Wellington, with Pastor Mark Petric officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington.
