He lived all of his life in Huron County. He graduated from New London High School in 1954. He attended some college classes at the Ohio State University. He and Peggy were married in 1962. He served in the Air National Guard based at Lahm Airport in Mansfield. His earlier work experience was at Brooker Brothers in Norwalk, after which he farmed with his father for many years, raising mixed crops, orchard crops, sheep, and dairy cattle. During his active farming years, he served on the Dairy Service Unit, belonged to the Dairy Club of Huron County. He served on the Huron County Fair Board for many years ' first as the garden and farm products superintendent, then also as the fair board treasurer. He was instrumental in bringing the Huron County Fair into the computer age, using his long-time interest in computers to make the Huron County Fair the first fair in the area to use computers for its finances. Hunting, trap shooting and target shooting was a lifetime hobby and he took classes to be certified as a Youth Hunter Safety Educator. He taught Hunter Safety classes for many years at the Fitchville Conservation Club. Besides these classes he conducted seminars and exhibits throughout the area. He promoted hunter safety at the Huron County Fair in later years and went every year to Intermediate and Junior 4-H Camp Conger to teach 4-H members about gun safety. He had judged 4-H outdoor and hunting sports fair projects in several other counties. He was a 4-H Camp Counselor, 4-H Advisor and 4-H Adult Camp Leader. He organized a Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) team which he accompanied to the State YHEC competition every year, also taking the team to nationals several years. In his retirement, he continued to farm a few acres, raising hay, corn, apples and cider which he sold at auctions in Blooming Grove and in Ashland, where he assisted as clerk. His cider made from selected assortment of apples was considered the best by many and he supplied many Halloween parties over the years. For most of his life, he had attended the Olena Presbyterian Church, which was the church of his parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau and had been in the Plows and Pans Farm Bureau Council for many years. Along with all his other activities he always found time to help both family and friends with various projects, large and small ' as long as they didn't interfere with bowling on Monday nights, the trap shoot on Wednesday nights or the hay auction on Friday.
