Obituary

Gerald R. Hunter, age 92, died Monday afternoon at Fisher-Titus Medical Center after a short illness. Gerald was born in Ripley Township, son of the late Murray Clark (M.C.) and Myra (Rhine) Hunter. He was a life long resident of the Greenwich area. He was a 1936 graduate of Greenwich High School. He served in the United States Army, 728 Railroad Battalion in Nurnburg, Germany during WWII. He had been a farmer all of his life. Gerald was a 79 year member of the Ripley Church and currently attended the Fitchville United Methodist Church. He was a 65 year member of the Greenwich American Legion Mil Bow Mar Post 280. Surviving Gerald is his wife of 63 years, Carola; a son, Gary and Janis Hunter of Dennison, Ohio; grandson, Dusten and Ruth of Bellevue; brother, R. Clark and Bonnie Hunter of Greenwich; sister, Elaine and Jim Stauffer of Ashland and a half sister, Mary Anne and Richard Preston of Perrysburg. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert M. Hunter in 2008. A visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, September 22 from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from noon until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich with Rev. Tom Matus officiating. Burial will follow at Edwards Grove Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be made in Gerald's name to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 or donor's choice.
