Obituary

Norwalk, Ohio – Gilbert T. Barman, 89, went to be with the Lord Monday, July 1, 2019 in Gaymont Nursing Center, Norwalk, Ohio, he was surrounded by his family.  Gilbert was born on October 8, 1929 to the late Elenora C. (Martin) and Roman Barman in Monroeville, Ohio.  He graduated from Monroeville High School in 1947, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1952, and married Eileen (Smith) on April 24, 1953 and moved from Monroeville to Norwalk, where he raised his family. He was employed by Delphi Chassis, formerly New Departure, Sandusky, Ohio and retired in 1988 after 40 years. Gilbert enjoyed playing softball and later coached Little League baseball for many years, he loved playing dart-ball with his sons Gary and David and his buddy, Ron Berner, sponsored by A.J. Bates and Conservation Number 4.  Gilbert enjoyed woodworking and was an avid Cleveland sports fan and Trump supporter.  He faithfully attended St. Paul Catholic Church and supported St. Paul sports until dementia set in.  He really loved the Lord and he will be dearly missed.  Gilbert is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Eileen M. (Smith) Barman of Norwalk, Ohio, by his children, Gary (Stella) Barman of Norwalk, Ohio, Vicki (Dave) Cronk of Norwalk, Ohio, Barbara Castello of Norwalk, Ohio, David (Londa) Barman of Pickerington, Ohio, and Steve (Diana) Barman of Canton, Michigan.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Stephanie, Jennifer, Jeff "Buddy", Jessica, Tyler, Marshal, Tessa, Drew, Jenna, Troy, Mitch, Lexy, and Marissa, by 8 great grandchildren, and by his brother Raymond Barman of Huron, Ohio.  He is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings Marcella Pheiffer and Alvin Barman.  Friends may call on Friday, July 5, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 6, at 10:00 a.m.  in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E.
