Obituary

Glessie Slone, 86, of Mansfield died Friday, December 5, 2025 at Avalon Senior Living, Indianapolis, IN.  She was born August 9, 1939 in Hippo, KY to the late Myrtle (Reed) and Harles Vanderpool.  Mrs. Slone moved to Shiloh, OH as a child, then on to Greenwich during her grade school years. She was a graduate of Greenwich High School and while working as a teenager at her father's store and gas station, she first saw Charles.

Glessie worked annually at the Richland County Board of Elections, cut meat and served customers at Weidle's Meat Market, also worked at Montgomery Ward and Westinghouse Electric, all in Mansfield. Glessie was a lifelong servant of God from the time she gave her heart to the Lord in Shiloh as a young girl until her death.  She served her Lord in various roles, Sunday school teacher, kitchen work, cleaning of the church, usherette duty, prayer warrior, weekly prayer list compiling, dining room work at church conventions.  She was a dedicated housewife, and loved to care for her family in that capacity.  She was a great cook, and was known for her biscuits, peanut butter cookies, fudge and much more, working alongside her husband in keeping a garden, canning and freezing.  Glessie enjoyed playing sports in her younger years, then later enjoyed quilting, working in her flowers, attending church and enjoyed seeing the wildlife and birds at their home place and playing baseball in the backyard with her grandkids.

Glessie is survived by her husband, Charles E. Slone whom she married March 23, 1957; 2 children, Elaine Slone Robinson of Mansfield, and Kristie (David) Slone Blackwell of Greenwood, IN; 2 daughter in laws, Judy Slone of Parkton, NC, Stacia Slone of Mansfield; 5 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sons, Edward Slone and Martin Slone; son in law, Kevin Robinson; and 2 brothers, Harles Vanderpool Jr. and Rodney Vanderpool.
