IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gregory H.
Mcdonald
May 23, 1950 – December 21, 2019
Gregory H. McDonald, 69, of Norwalk, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2019 in the transitional care unit of Fisher Titus Medical Center after a 2-week illness. He was born on May 23, 1950 in Sandusky, son of the late Robert H. and Margaret (Doughty) McDonald.
Greg attended St. Mary's Elementary School, was a 1968 graduate of Norwalk High School and a 1972 graduate of Ohio Dominican College with a bachelor's degree in education, majoring in Art and minoring in Music. Greg had spent his entire 35-year teaching career at South Central Schools, teaching art to hundreds, if not thousands, of students. Having retired from teaching in 2007 he continued to be the tech director and set designer for South Central's dinner theatre and musical productions until 2014.
Greg had been the organist and choir director at St. Mary's Catholic Church for almost 50 years. He began playing the organ for the church while still in high school in 1965. Greg began taking organ lessons at a young age and continued to practice almost daily for most of his life. His love of art developed into his passion for wood carving. He took wood carving lessons for several years and had created hundreds of hand carved Christmas ornaments and plaques for family and friends.
He was a long-time member of Towne and Country Players, having served on their board of directors for many years and performing in many stage productions. Greg shared his love and talent for music by playing at the Marian Palace, Norwalk Carriage House, and Norwalk Memorial Home. He also sang and played the organ and piano for countless weddings.
He enjoyed traveling, going to Cedar Point, and especially spending time with his family. He truly was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, great uncle, and friend to all who knew and loved him. Greg was blessed with many God given talents that he was thankful for by continuing to use them until his last day.
He is survived by his brothers, Jeff (Barb) McDonald and Kevin (Monica) McDonald of Norwalk; his sister, Celeste (Don) Eastman of Greenwich; his nieces and nephews, Aaron (Lori) Ortner, Amy (Nate) Nolan, Heather (Nick) Graffice, Jenny (Craig) Ridge, Jonathan (Tonia) McDonald, Matt (Lyndsey) McDonald, Betsy (Eric) Dinkins, Jen (Brandon) Whyde, Katie Bundschuh, Rachel (Sam) Heydinger, Robin (B.J.)
