Obituary

Ashland, Ohio - Harlon K. Jennings, 91, of Ashland, Ohio, and formerly of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Tuesday morning, August 2, 2016 in his home in Belmont Care Village. He was born March 20, 1925 in Fitchville, Ohio, to the late Glenn and Leda R. (Kilper) Jennings. Harlon was a 1943 graduate of New London High School and a 1948 graduate, and member of the marching band, of the University of Cincinnati, receiving a degree in Civil Engineering. Harlon completed his Co-op with the L & N. Railroad in Kentucky. He was the former co-owner, and manager, of Jennings Ready Mix. Harlon was a former realtor for Routh Realty. He was a member of the Norwalk First United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of the building committee during the construction of the education wing, was a former Sunday School teacher, member of the United Methodist Men, and sang in the chancel choir for many years. Harlon was a member of the Shakespeare Club, was past president of the Norwalk Area Chamber of Commerce, the Norwalk Kiwanis Club, Ohio Ready Mix, a member of the Norwalk Salvation Army Board, and received Young Man of the year as a member of the Norwalk Jay Cee's. He enjoyed volunteer work, computer work, and spending time with family and friends. Harlon is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lois A. (Coleman) Jennings of Ashland, Ohio, by his daughter's, Jeannette L. (Steve Chick) Jennings of Columbus, Ohio, Carol S. (Douglas) Clevenger of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and Ann M. Jennings of Ashland, Ohio, by 3 grandsons, and 2 great grandsons, and 2 great granddaughters. Harlon is also survived by his sister in law, Sandra Jennings of Stockton, California. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Royce M. Jennings, and Lowell B. Jennings, and by his sister, Janice Clark. Friends may call on Friday, August 5, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. in the Norwalk First United Methodist Church, 60 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Dr. Brian Oglesbee and Rev. Doug Clevenger will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the Norwalk First United Methodist Church.
