Obituary

Harold William Myers, 85, of New London, died Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky. He was a son of the late Kenneth H. and Etta (Cherry) Myers born on September 7, 1925 in Willard. Harold lived in Peru, Ohio and moved to New London in 1949. He graduated in 1943 from Monroeville High School. Harold served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946 in the South Pacific on the USS Trenton. Harold worked many years for A.J. Baltes in Norwalk as a Superintendent and later worked for Pierce Construction in Holland, Ohio. Harold was a life member of the American Legion Broome-Wood Post 292, a Free Mason for 60 years, a life member of the North American Fishing Club, and a charter member of the World War II Memorial. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed all Ohio sports. Survivors include his devoted wife, Jean (Haynes) Myers; daughters, Nancy (Joe) Campisi of Bowling Green and Mary (Roger) Hamilton of Canton; son, Tom (Dusty) Myers of New London and seven grandchildren. Harold is also survived by his brother, Ervin Myers of Monroeville and a sister, Mary Ellen Jones of Norwalk. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte and two sisters, Velda Kelly and Evalynn Watkins. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main Street, New London with military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to Stein Hospice Service, Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 or the New London Historical Society, 210 East Main Street, New London, Ohio 44851.
