Harold M. Stevens, age 87, of Collins, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 1, 2013 from prostate cancer at his home. He was born on December 2, 1925, in Hancock County, Ohio, the son of the late Murdo and Hazel (Heitschler) Stevens. Harold lived in Okemos, Michigan, Fitchville and the Hartland area the rest of his life. He graduated from New London High School in 1944. Harold was a life long farmer. He was a member of the Hartland Center Community Church, Farm Bureau, Fitchville Grange for over 50 years, 4-H leader for many years. Harold enjoyed bowling, woodworking and spending time with family. He loved being on the farm and working on machinery and fixing things. Harold looked forward to wintering in Florida with his wife Phyllis for many years. Survived by his wife of 68 years, Phyllis (Huestis); son, Doyle (Marlene) Stevens of Collins; grandsons, David (Anel) Stevens of New London and Daniel (Nicole) Stevens of Norwalk; great grandchildren, Emily, Thatcher, Walker and Tate Daniel and brothers, Wesley (Betty) Stevens of Umatilla, Florida and Donald Stevens of New Haven. Harold's family will greet friends from 5-8 pm. on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Hartland Center Community Church, 2750 Court Road, Collins with Pastor Jon Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Hartland Ridge Cemetery, Collins.
