Obituary

Harrison L. Comstock, 87, of Wellington, died Friday, November 18, 2011 at his home. Born on April 5, 1924 in Elyria to the late Harrison and Anna (nee Collins) Comstock, he graduated from Vermilion High School in 1941. Harrison attended Ohio University before entering the Air Force during World War II where he served as a radio operator for B24s in the Pacific. Following his military service, Harrison continued his education at Bowling Green and proudly graduated from the Ohio State University Law School in 1952. He started his own law firm in 1952 and retired in 1989 after 37 years. A man who embodied the definition of civic leadership, Harrison served as the Village Solicitor for many years. He was involved with Boy Scouts for over 50 years, earning the Silver Beaver honor; Harrison served as the Committee Chair and Treasurer for Wellington Troop 414. He helped organize the Fire and Ambulance Districts and served on the Wellington School Endowment board until 2008. Always active with the Congregational Church, Harrison helped with Sunday School, Youth Group, Church Council and Diaconate. He also was a 32 degree Mason and the legal council for LMRE for 36 years. Besides his many interests in the community, Harrison enjoyed being outdoors and especially liked camping, swimming, photography, traveling and bike riding. He treasured time with his family and like to read. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Frances; children, Jim (Katie) Comstock, of Littleton, CO, Peg Comstock, of San Diego, Ca, Tom (Pam) Comstock, of Bozeman, MT, Janet (Brent) Krelko, of Westerville, OH; 5 grandchildren, Kirsten, Kevin, Michelle, Becca and Becky; AFS exchange students who were like family, Manolo (Sonia) Valenzuela, their 3 children and 2 grandchildren, all of Chile and Syamaun (Erna) Peusangan and their 4 children all from Indonesia, now residing in Canada. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 21 from 3 - 7 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 140 South Main St, Wellington where a Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, with Rev. Brian Burke officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington. The Comstock family encourages donations to the Wellington School Endowment, 201 South Main Street, Wellington, or to the Historic Renovation Projects at the First Congregational Church.
