Obituary

Hazel S. Cummings, age 98, of New London, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the Rehabilitation & Nursing Center at Firelands, New London. She was born September 17, 1909 in Adamsville, New York, daughter of the late Julius and Gertrude (Swift) Griffin. She grew up in Adamsville, N.Y., then lived in Newcomb, N.Y. where her husband worked as chief engineer at the National Lead Mine during World War II. After the war, Mrs. Cummings relocated to New London where her husband was the manager of Firelands Electric Co-op until his death in 1962. Mrs. Cummings spent 3 years as a house mother at Oberlin College in the late 1960's. She was a past board member of the New London Library and a past member of the New London Garden Club. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Ann Reniger of Grayling, Michigan; 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Cummings in 1962, her son in law, Henry A. Reniger, her brother, Edward Griffin, her sister, Rene Eldridge. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London. A graveside service will take place at a later date in Hartford, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the New London Public Library, 67 S. Main St., New London, OH 44851.
