Helen May Blanton, 85, of New London, died April 18, 2011 at her residence. She was born in Hudson, Ohio on July 20, 1925, daughter of the late Mort and Isa Cassel. Her mother, Isa, died in 1931 and Helen was raised by John and Lena Cassel. Helen lived most of her life New London. She worked for the former C.E. Ward Company, operated Aladdin Beauty Shop in New London for fifteen years and later worked at Thomas Creative Apparel of New London. Helen was a member of the New London United Methodist Church and the Historical Society of New London. She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Miller (Ron) Dill of VA; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Baum; son, Steve Miller; sisters, Betty Wolfe and Eileen Buswell; and, brothers, Robert Cassel and Gilbert Cassel. Helen had been in failing health for the past 10 years. At her request, there will be no services. Arrangements were entrusted to Eastman Funeral Home, New London.
