Helen P. Winland, age 94 of Avon Park, Florida and formerly of New London died
Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Royal Care Nursing Home, Avon Park, Florida. She was born February 21, 1914 in Cadiz, Ohio, daughter of the late William Blair and Avis Harriett (Jamison) Nash. She moved to Homerville, Ohio in 1923 where she was a 1933 graduate of Homerville Centralized High School. She had lived in Spencer, Lodi, Nova and moved to New London in 1948. Mrs. Winland worked for the former C.E. Ward Co., the Lehman Bakery, the Waldorf Marking Devices all in New London and at Fair Publishing in Norwalk from 1957 until her retirement in 1977. She was also self-employed as a Wall Paper Hanger for 52 years. Mrs. Winland was a member of the New London United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of the Mary Circle Club and a 20 year member of the New London American Legion Broome Wood Post 292 Auxiliary, and a 15 year member of the Sandusky Chapter of the United Ostomy Association.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Marilyn and Roger Farver of Sebring, Florida; a son in law, Ralph Smith of Nova; 5 stepchildren, Dolly Grisl and Mark Winland both of California, Holly Christian of Elyria, Tammy Obergefell of Sandusky and Dan Horn of Bay View, Ohio; 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 8 Great Great Grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren; 2 brothers Paul Nash of Eustis, Florida and John Nash of Sullivan. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elvery Massie in 1951, her second husband, William McKinney in 1977, her third husband, Richard Allen Winland in 1998, her daughter, Donna Smith in 1973, an infant son in 1943, 3 brothers, Grant and Donald Nash and her third brother in infancy; her infant grandson and a granddaughter, Mary Beth Heitz.
Friends may call from 6 ' 8 p.m., Sunday, December 7th at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday with Rev. Tom Matus officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Street Cemetery, New London. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Good Shepherd Hospice, 4418 Sun N Lake Blvd., Sebring, Florida 33872.
