Herald E. ( Suzzy) Murr, age 83, of Ashland died, January 14, 2010 at Grant Medical Hospital in Columbus after a short illness. He was born July 29, 1926 in Sullivan and grew up in New London. Herald resided in Florida for eleven years and has lived in Ashland since 1972. He graduated with the New London High School class of 1944.
Herald proudly served from 1943 to 1946 in the United States Navy during World War II in Pacific Theater and the SICU 32 unit during the invasion of Peleliu. Mr. Murr retired from Eastern Airlines in Miami as a mechanic and then worked for Family Pools and Spas in Ashland. He was very interested in his family genealogy and had a great sense of humor. Mr. Murr was a life member of the V.F.W. and New London American Legion Broome Wood Post 292.
Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Dorothy; children, Pam Roush and Tanya (Jim) Brown both of New London, Tim (Nancy) Murr of Okeechobee, FL, daughter-in-law Helen Murr of Florida, Pam (Clark) Richards and Vickie (nee Clark) Gary Guemelata both of Ashland and Joni (nee Clark) (Scott) Dalrymple of Wooster; 10 grandchildren, Chrystie Reep, Bryan (Carla) Reep, Brennan Smith, Brianne Smith, Kazi (Dave) Griffore-Murr, Allison Murr, Ken (Lisa) Brown, Angela (Mike) Braun, Sonia (Kevin) Meade and Kathy (nee Roush) (Tom) Laser , Tim (Debbie) Murr, Tammy Murr, and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Betty Fingulin of New London and Marjorie Bardy of Florida. He was preceded in death by his son, Jack Murr; 3 brothers, John, Dewey and Jay Murr and 2 sisters, Mable Secrist and Marie McQuate.
Friends may call Sunday, January 17 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London and from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Monday with Rev. Cathy Ake officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Imhoff Cemetery. Memorials may be made to New London Historical Society, 210 E. Main St., New London, Ohio 44851.
