Hershal Hall

Hershal Hall, 84, of Wakeman, Ohio, died at his home on August 31, 2026, following a brief illness. The home he built largely himself, surrounded by woods, was his own little world—a place where he was content to stay close to home and live life on his own terms.

He retired from Norwalk Furniture after many years of employment. Hershal had a lifelong love of music and played bluegrass for many years, with the banjo and guitar being his main instruments. He was also an avid reader, particularly enjoying true crime and biographies.

Hershal had a personality all his own and was not one to let an opportunity pass without sharing his thoughts, opinions, wit, or instructions. He could be particular about how things should be done, and if you didn’t get it right the first time, he was always willing to explain it again. And again. And again. His family wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Hershal is survived by his children, Judy Hall of Lorain, Ohio; Jeffrey Hall of Grethel, Kentucky; JoAnne Mitchell of Pikeville, Kentucky; and Jackie and Randy Gadd of Berea, Kentucky; his brother, Adrian Hall; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry Hall, Phillip Hall, and Linnard Hall.

He leaves behind a family who will remember his music, his stories, his strong opinions, his sense of humor, and all the little things that made him who he was. His voice, his music, his stories, and his way of doing things will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

At Hershal’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. He will be cremated, and his family will honor his memory privately.
