Obituary

Hobart S. Lyons, age 87, of Wellington died Saturday, May 5th, 2007 at the Elms after a lengthy illness. Mr. Lyons was born October 22, 1919 in Londonderry, OH to the late Kenton and Lona Lyons. He was a 1939 graduate of Portsmouth High School and received two degrees from the Cincinnati Bible Seminary in 1949 and 1951. Mr. Lyons served his country as a staff sergeant in the Army Air Force from 1942 ' 1945 during WWII. Mr. Lyons served as the director of Green Acres Children's Home in Oberlin and worked in the domestic relations court of Lorain County. He served the community as the minister at several Church of Christ and Christian Churches for sixty years. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Amherst. Hobart was instrumental in the creation of Round Lake, a church camp retreat, outside Lakeville, OH and volunteered there in several capacities. He enjoyed golfing and was an Indians and Browns Fan. Mr. Lyons is survived by his wife, Helen, of 60 years, a son, Shelby (Cathy) Lyons, of Lakewood, CO, a daughter, Rebecca (Stanley) Kotowski, of LaGrange, 2 granddaughters, Rachel (Rocky) Houston of Grafton and Brandi Bonner of Vermillion, a step granddaughter, Mary Reed of Littleton, CO, and 4 great-grandchildren, Madilynn Bonner, Dylan Decker, Rocky Houston, and Helayna Houston. He is also survived by a sister, Ivarene Prather of Sunbury, OH, a sister-in-law, Mary Biggs, and a nephew, Mike Biggs. Mr. Lyons was preceded in death by his brother, Rudy Lyons. A memorial service will be held May 19th at 10:30 am at the Hope Christian Church, 32575 Detroit Ave, Avon, OH 44011. Officiating ministers will be Curt Bedwell, Tim Hanze, and J.D. McIntosh. Burial will take place later at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Christian Church or to the Amherst Church of Christ, 591 Washington St., Amherst, OH 44001.
