Obituary

Howard W. Jordan, 95, of Huntington, died Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin. A son of the late Lawrence and Edna (nee Beam) Jordan, Howard was born on June 5, 1916 in Wellington and lived there until 1937 when he settled in Huntington. He was a 1935 graduate of Wellington High School. Howard was a dairy and grain farmer. He also raised registered Corridale sheep for over 75 years. He showed at many local fairs, the Ohio State Fair and other state fairs. He won the Grand Champion Sheep in Chicago and was member of the National Corridale Association and served as an executive member on the board. Howard also was a member of the Farm Bureau. He served on the Lorain County Health Department Board for 8 years and also on the Huntington School Board. In the 1950s, Howard was honored with the Soil Conservation Award and the Farmer of the Year Award from Kiwanis. Survivors include his daughter, Nancy (Thomas) Pifer, of Montgomery, AL; sons, Thomas Jordan and John (Terri) Jordan, all of Sullivan; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and on great great grandchild; sister, Phyllis Styer, of Charlotte NC and brothers, Lawrence Jordan, Jr., of Nevada and Leroy Jordan, of Oberlin. Howard was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Dorris M. Jordan in 2005; sisters, Wanda Walker, Mary Settlemire and Jeanette Walko; brothers, James and Robert Jordan. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington where funeral services will be Saturday, 1 p.m. with burial following at the Huntington Township Cemetery.
