Howard C. “Chick” Schild, 93, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, from a brief illness at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk. He was born on July 5, 1933, in Monroeville to the late Clayton and Laura (Herner) Schild and graduated from Monroeville High School in 1951. Chick served his country as part of the United States Army during the Korean War.

A huge baseball fan, Chick not only followed the game, but also played both baseball, softball and dart ball locally for many years. He also kept nice clean cars which he carefully detailed and maintained so they always looked their best. Chick was a people person who was always smiling and socializing.

He had worked for over 30 years at the General Electric Lamp Plant and after retirement he worked for White’s Lumber and Smetzer’s Paint.

Chick was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Norwalk VFW Post 2743, and the Norwalk American Legion Post 41.

He is survived by his daughters, Lesta (Edmund) Schafer of Port Clinton, and Rhonda (David) Doughty of Norwalk; grandchildren, Luke Schafer of Columbus, Courtney Popek of Stow, Brittany (Brian) Belcher of Columbus, and John H. Seitz of Republic; great grandchildren, Adalee Belcher, Solomon Belcher, Jocelyn Popek, and Addison Popek; sisters in-law, Rita Schild and Eda Hipp; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Regina (Hipp) Schild, in 2021; and siblings, Joanne Smith, Jeanette Shondel, Russell Schild, and William Schild.

Visitation for Chick will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 243 Benedict Ave., Norwalk, OH 44857, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service, which will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Phil Gardner officiating. Lunch and a private burial will follow the services. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the Norwalk VFW Post 2743, 140 Milan Ave. Norwalk, OH 44857.
