Ida F. Estridge, age 91, of Greenwich, died Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Willard Healthcare Center. Mrs. Estridge was born Sept. 27, 1917 in Butler Twp., daughter of the late Edwin & Irnie (Marvin) VanScoy. Ida had lived in Greenwich for many years; she resided in Plymouth from 1974 until her move back to Greenwich in 1986.
She graduated from Greenwich High School in 1933 and attended Bowling Green University, where she received her teaching certificate. In the early 60's Ida graduated from Ashland College with a Bachelors of Science in Education. She taught elementary school in the area for 38 years. Ida was a long time member of the Greenwich Church of Christ, a member of the Ladies Historical Society, the Huron County Retired Teachers Association and the Reading Circle.
Ida is survived by step-children, step grandchildren; sisters in law, Kay and Evelyn VanScoy; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded by 1st husband, Harold Tucker; 2nd husband, William Estridge; 4 sisters, Grace MacMillan, Christel Knapp, Ruth Sharpless and Helen VanScoy; and 5 brothers, Chester, Fred, Myron, Ralph, Claire and Frank VanScoy.
Friends will be received 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich, where funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday.
Burial will follow in Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery.
