Ilarae Greene, 95, of Brighton, died Monday, December 16, 2019, at home, surrounded by family. Born on October 18, 1924 in Oberlin, she was the daughter of the late Clare and Ruth (nee Puder) Ross. Ilarae grew up in Wakeman and was a 1943 graduate of Wakeman High School. On May 27, 1944, she married Gordon Greene at her parents home with her minister, Rev. Finley Eastman officiating. The Greenes then moved to Brighton to the family farm where she lived out the rest of her life.
Ilarae was a beautician and owned La Rae's Shearing Shop for 26 years. She enjoyed volunteering her time, first with St. Joseph New Life Hospice for nearly 20 years, and then another 20 years with Elyria Memorial Hospital. Ilarae was a member of the Wellington First Baptist Church for over 25 years. A hard worker, she helped her husband on the farm for many years. She was talented at needle work including crocheting. Most of all Ilarae enjoyed time with her family and friends, making meals and hosting gatherings.
Survivors include her loving husband of 75 years, Gordon Greene; daughter Patricia (Al) Seaburn; grandchildren Brian (Jennifer) Barlow, Joshua (Julie) Greene, and Nathan (Carmen) Greene; great-grandchildren Samuel, Kaitlyn, Alexis, Audrey, Daniel, Carolyn, and Noah; daughter-in-law Anita Greene; and sister Annabelle. Ilarae was preceded in death by her son Clifford Greene.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, December 20, from 3-7 p.m. at the Wellington First Regular Baptist Church, 125 Grand Ave, Wellington, and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services beginning at 11 a.m. A private family burial will take place after at Brighton Twp. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Ilarae's memory may be directed to either the church, or to New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Rd, Lorain, 44053.
