Iola R. Graibus Larsen, 94, of Wellington, died May 16, 2010 at Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin following a long illness. Iola was born July 25, 1915 in Collins to the late Ruby (nee Heartline) and Stanley Riggs. She spent most of her life in the Pittsfield and Wellington areas, graduating from Wellington High School in 1933. Following graduation, Iola went to Euclid Glenville Hospital Training and graduated as an RN in April of 1937.
Iola loved being a nurse; she worked for the Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Elyria Memorial Hospital, and Allen Memorial Hospital in Oberlin. A loving mother and grandmother, Iola loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, sewing crewel pictures, boating and fishing with her family.
She leaves behind her two children, Charles (Sandy) Graibus, of Orlando and David (Beverly) Graibus, of Wellington; four grandchildren, Tony, Carrie, Kelli, and Mark; 4 great grandchildren, Charlie, Natalie, Rachel, and Hayden. Iola is also survived by siblings, Harry Riggs, Mable Rawson, Sue Sprenger; many nieces and nephews and good friends, Don and Zaren VanMeter, Sally Ashbaugh and Sue Gott. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Anthony Graibus, Albert 'Al' Larsen and Niels 'Babe' Larsen; infant daughter, Iola; brothers, Stanley 'Bud', Robert, David, and Ted Riggs and sisters, Bess Swope McHenry and Jean Finkle Heartly.
Friends and family will be received from 6 p.m. until the 7 p.m. memorial service on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. Donations in memory of Iola can be sent to New Life Hospice, 5225 N. Abbe Rd., Elyria, OH 44035. Iola's family wants to express their thanks to Dr. Georgia Newman, all the staff at Welcome Nursing Home and the Ireland Cancer Center for their wonderful care.
