Dr. Ira M. Willett, died at The Willows at Willard on Monday, October 19, 2015. He was 78. Born September 19, 1937 in Fleming County, Kentucky to Ira Farrar and Pauline Willett, he graduated from Kaiser High School in Dayton and then Ohio State University Dentistry School in 1962. While at OSU Ira was a member of the ROTC and after he graduated he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Chicago, attaining the rank of Captain. On December 23, 1962 Ira married the love of his life Hazel Wise. Together they moved to Greenwich in November of 1964. He started his dentistry practice in Greenwich until retiring in 2002. Ira was a member of The Ripley Church, American Dental Association; active member of the New London Greenwich Rail-Trail, Mansfield Lapidary Club, Ohio dental association and National Story Tellers. He was a former member of Greenwich Rotary, South Central School Board, the Mason's and a Cub Scout Master. He loved spoiling his grandchildren, jewelry making, wood working, walking, fishing and camping. Ira was passionate about biblical memorization, gardening and bird watching. He will be especially remembered for his storytelling, being ornery and his great sense of humor. Ira may be remembered by his patients for his humming. Survivors include Hazel; sons, David (Diane) Willett of Willard and Michael (Julie) Willett of Huron; 15 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and sister, Ioline Murphy of Maysville, Kentucky. Ira was preceded in death by his son, Robert Willett; parents; sister, Connie Frame and brother-in-law, Charlie Frame. His family will greet friends from 4-8 pm Friday, October 23, 2015 at The Ripley Church, 4130 Edwards Road in Greenwich where services will be held at 11 am Saturday with Pastor Eric Robinson officiating. Burial will be at Edwards Grove Cemetery, Greenwich. Memorial contributions are welcome at Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
