Jacob "Jake" J. Schmitz, Jr., 69, of New London, passed away peacefully Friday, October 11, 2013 at The Laurels of New London. He was born August 8, 1944, in Avon, to Jacob and Emma (Bach) Schmitz. He worked at Ridge Tool in Elyria as a maintenance welder before retiring after 43 years. He lived in New London for 10 years. Jake loved working in his garage on cars, trucks and tractors, playing with his dogs and spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sharon (Keller) Schmitz, sons, Michael (Debbie) Schmitz, David (Val) Schmitz and grandchildren, Chelsea Schmitz, Barrett Schmitz and Aaron Schmitz. He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday, October 14 at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 18 Park Ave., New London with Father Doug Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
