Jacqueline "Jackie" Hopkins, 79, of Huntington, died Thursday, January 19, 2017 at The Hospice of Medina County after a long battle with Alzheimers. Born on October 15, 1937 in Evergreen Park IL, she was the daughter of the late Reinhardt and Sarah Elizabeth (nee Ferguson) Scherrer. Jackie moved to the Huntington area in the late 60's.
Known as a hard worker, Jackie was employed at TAPE and later Forest City Industries both in Wellington. She was proud of the fact that she was able to provide a comfortable life for herself and her children. She attended the United Church of Huntington. Jackie enjoyed being outdoors and volunteered with the Lorain County Metro Parks as well as Findley State Park. Traveling was a pastime that Jackie enjoyed, especially trips to the casinos. Jackie was full of love, she loved people, her presence was known when she came into a room and she brought a light heartedness to those that surrounded her. She was known for an ability to talk to anyone, making fast friends anywhere she went which ended in laughter and lasting friendship. More than anything Jackie cherished her family; the ties that she shared with them were extremely important. She was proud of her children and grandchildren just as they were proud of her and the strength she showed until the end. Jackie handled her decline with dignity and put her family first through it all.
Jackie is survived by her children Scott (Jody) Hopkins, of Wellington, Mark (Leigh Ann) Hopkins, of Spencer, John Hopkins of Wadsworth, and Kathleen (Timothy) Frazier, of Nova; grandchildren Jessica, Brian, Adam, Mandy, Blake, Alyssa, Jenna, Jules, and Dana; and great-grandson Owen. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert Scherrer.
Friends and family will be received on Sunday, January 29, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellingon.
