Obituary

James Bennett, 70, of Wellington died Thursday morning, April 1st at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Hillsboro, Ohio on November 29, 1939 to Joseph and Mary Ellen Bennett and was the eldest of 5 siblings, with lots of Irish aunts, uncles and cousins to love him. Jim, 'Mr. B', lived in Wellington since the late 1990's, previously residing with family. At home he was his mother's human alarm clock to wake her for her night shift job. After moving to Weber Health Care Center in Wellington, he was employed by the Murray Ridge Production Center and in 2007 began attending the Wellington Habilitation Center. Jim enjoyed television and was devoted to local TV personalities; he loved talking books and magazines, checkers and family card games. He remained loyal to his brother-in-law by being a Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh fan all at the same times as he loved most any sport. He traveled across country and visited the Grand Canyon and Pebble Beach Golf Course. He enjoyed entertainment venues and attending professional sporting events and concerts. Jim was a charter member in the Aktion Club of Wellington and served as the original Vice President of this Kiwanis Family Organization. He enjoyed participating in fund raising activities and meetings and especially enjoyed the parties given for Westwood Elementary School children. He performed as the 'talking Christmas tree' at Christmas parties and wore spectacular and entertaining costumes for Halloween parties. During the time he lived at Weber Health Care Center, Jim extended his family to include staff members and their children and grandchildren. He loved to visit infants and children and enjoyed being around people and a party for any occasion. It was rare to see him without a smile. He was known for his choice of wearing themed socks and clothing and enjoyed life to the fullest opportunities including cheering on the Cleveland Indians each year. Jim is survived by his sisters: Katie (Dave) Deininger of Cincinanti, Barb Deighton of Strongsville, and Betty (Steve) Smith of West Salem; his brother, Joe Bennett of Cleveland; 6 nieces and nephews; 10 great nieces and nephews and his extended family of housemates, fellow Aktion Club Members and staff at Weber Health Care in Wellington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Ellen Bennett, brother-in-law, Joe Deighton and great nephew, Jack Deininger and several friends and peers at Webers. Burial will be held Tuesday, April 6th at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brookpark. A celebration of Jim's life in the fashion of a party with karaoke and singing will be held by his family at the Wellington Habilitation Center, 139 Weber Court, Wellington, on that same date from 1:30 p.m. ' 4 p.m. His family invites all friends to join them at this open house event to share laughter and memories in a manner Jim would most enjoy.
