Obituary

Norwalk, Ohio - James A. (Jim) Ewell Sr, 91, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, after a short illness. Jim was born at home, 103 S. Main Street, Milan, Ohio, September 12, 1927, to Homer and Mabel (Sarr) Ewell. Upon graduating from Milan in 1945 as Valedictorian, he served in the United States Air Force between 1946-1947. Returning from the service, Jim was employed with his Father at Ewell & Sons Ford dealership - later known as George Manyak Ford, and eventually Don Tester Ford, where he remained as the Sales Manager until his retirement in 1992. He won many sales achievement awards throughout his career. Jim enjoyed passing on his salesmanship skills to his three sons. On June 10, 1953, Jim married the love of his life, Mary Jane Stahl, and together they raised three sons. Jim was very active as the Scout Master of Troop 218 where all of his sons reached the rank of Eagle Scout. Jim was a longtime member of Norwalk First United Methodist Church. He was an active long term member of Norwalk Rotary since 1961. He served as the Club President 1969-70 term. He was also honored as a Paul Harris Fellow in 2003, Supporting Polio Plus to eliminate Polio in Third World Countries. Jim was also a member of Ken Burr Bell Post #41 American Legion, was a 70 year member of Mt. Vernon #64 F. & A.M. a life member of the Norwalk Elks Club, and a life member of the NRA. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed being involved with various Boy Scout committees (Wood Badge designation), reading, gardening, walking and traveling. Jim also immensely enjoyed his grandchildren, and hosting Christmas Eve festivities. Organ donation was important to Jim and he was able to contribute to this program upon his death. Jim is survived by his Sons and Daughters-in-law whom all reside in Norwalk; James Jr. and Barb (Snyder) Ewell, Jay and Paulette (Hipp) Ewell, and Jonathon and Michaela (Matteson) Ewell. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jason (Jessica) Ewell, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jennifer (Nate) Blakeman, Bowling Green, Ohio, Justin (Gelsey) Ewell, Norwalk, Ohio, and Abbe (Kirk) Longstein, Ft. Collins, Colorado, by five great-grandchildren; Emily, Oliver and Alistair "Jimmie" Blakeman, Louise Ann Ewell, and Kirbe Longstein, and by his nieces, Dianne and Mary Ewell. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, by his loving wife, Mary Jane, by his brother, Robert (Margaret) Ewell, and nephew, David Ewell. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 22, 2019 at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, where funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2019. Burial will immediately follow in Milan Cemetery.
