James David Greaves, 73, of Wellington, died Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Elms Retirement Village in Wellington following a lengthy illness. James was born March 3, 1934 in Bedford, Ohio to the late Anna and Earl Greaves.
Following graduation from Bedford High School, James joined the Marine Corps. James went on to study at Purdue University and worked as a mechanical engineer designing equipment for various industries.
Mr. Greaves was a wonderful singer and was a member of the Geauga Lyric Theatre Guild, The Chagrin Valley Choral Union, The Solon Players, the University Circle Chorale, and the Scottish Clan Grant. James was also a member of the Wellington First Congregational United Church of Christ.
James is survived by his wife of 27 years, Janis McLaughlin and four children: Jeannine (John) Sparkes of Fort Myers, FL, James David Jr. of San Diego, CA, a daughter-in-law, Bima Rajbahak of Boise, ID, Julie Greaves of Fort Myers, FL, and Janice (Jason) Fraser of San Francisco, CA. Survivors also include five grandchildren, Thomas, Melissa, Jess, Jim, and Evan. James was preceded in death by six siblings.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 11 am at the Wellington First Congregational United Church of Christ, 140 South Main Street, Wellington, with Reverend Brian Burke officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ for choir music.
