Marietta, Ohio - James Lawrence Moritz of Blacksburg, Virginia, passed away in Marietta ,Ohio on April 30, 2016 after a short illness. He was 66. Born on November 30, 1949 to Herbert A. and Mary Moritz, Jim grew up with a younger brother on the edge of the Cook Forest State Park near Marienville, Pennsylvania. After briefly attending Clarion University, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving his country as an information specialist and reporter during the Vietnam War. Upon return to the States, he attended Temple University before embarking on a career in broadcasting in Charleston South Carolina. His career advanced to TV news anchorman for stations in Amarillo, Texas, Greenbay, Wisconsin, Moline, Illinois, LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Fort Wayne, Indiana, Scotts Bluff, Nebraska and Eureka, California. Jim was a writer and a lover of music and the outdoors. Tent camping was his passion. He was also an avid car enthusiast. Jim was on his way to visit his only child, daughter, Brooke (Justin) Immel and his granddaughters Zurina and Xavia of Norwalk, Ohio when he became ill and was hospitalized in Marietta. He is also survived by his wife, Gladys, of Blacksburg, VA and his 93 year old mother Mary, and younger brother, Rick (Barb) Moritz of Lewes, Delaware. He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert. A private family memorial is planned for Saturday, May 14, 2016. Send Condolences
