James R. Welfle, 76, of Youngstown, Ohio, and formerly of Norwalk, Ohio, died on August 15, 2024, at his home. He was born on July 13, 1948, in Norwalk, Ohio, to the late Harold and Joan (Baltes) Welfle.
Jim attended Norwalk St. Paul for elementary school and graduated from Norwalk High School in 1966. He also received an Associate's degree from Lorain County Community College. He served his country as part of the Air Force during the Vietnam War where he was stationed in Thailand, at Takhli Air Force Base.
He worked for nearly 30 years at New Departure and had also worked at General Motors.
Jim enjoyed skiing, fishing, gardening, motorcycles, and traveling. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 2743 and Norwalk St. Paul Catholic Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Sandra (Mezoff) Welfle, of Youngstown; their children, Brian Welfle of Alexandria, Virginia, and Tricia (Frankie) Bostardi of Lake Milton, Ohio; 4 grandchildren; siblings, Stephen Welfle of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Suzanne Weber, Dennis (Lori) Welfle, Nancy (Russ) Welfle, Joan (Neil) McFadden, all of Norwalk, and Robert Welfle of Monroeville, Kay (Kevin) Theisen of Lake Mary, Florida, William (Lisa) Welfle of Norwalk, Deborah (Lad) Miklovic of Jasper, Alabama, John (Brenda) Welfle of Norwalk, Mary Welfle of Kettering, Ohio, and Tim (Whitney) Welfle of Norwalk; sisters in-law, Kris (Jim) Wieter and Robin (Gary) Lancianese; aunt, Carol Baltes, as well as several nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father in-law and mother in-law, Robert (Jeanne) Mezoff; grandparents, Bernard (Luella) Baltes and Oscar (Francis) Welfle; and sisters in-law, Caryl Welfle and Margo Welfle.
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St., Norwalk, beginning at 10 a.m. with Fr. Anthony Recker presiding. Military honors will be held later that day, at 3 p.m. at Robert's house, (2177 Sand Hill Rd., Monroeville). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, (NINDS), P.O. Box 5801, Bethesda, MD 20824.
