IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jane Ida
Morahan
October 31, 1931 – March 29, 2024
Jane Ida Morahan, 92, beloved daughter, sibling, and aunt to many, passed away on Good Friday, March 29, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Evelyn (nee Brinkhoff), sister Mary Ann "Molly" Wiles, and brothers Martin and Donald.
Born on October 31, 1931, at Deaconess Hospital in Cleveland, OH, she spent several years of her youth in Pittsburgh, PA, with her grandparents during the depression. While there she attended the Fairgrieve School of Dance, fondly recalling it was the same school attended by Gene Kelly. She rejoined her siblings and parents in Wellington, OH as a young teenager and graduated from Wellington High School in 1949.
She began working for Forest City Enterprises in Brookpark and later in downtown Cleveland, making the daily journey from Wellington for many years before the construction of Interstate 480 eased the commute. Starting as a payroll clerk, she advanced to the position of Corporate Cash Manager before retiring with almost 40 years of service. In 1996 she received the distinguished Harry Schloss Award, which was established to recognize an outstanding employee. She loved her job and friends at Forest City Enterprises and would have happily continued working much longer if not for her devotion as a caregiver to her mother, who lived to age 96.
She was a member of St. Patrick Parish in Wellington, the West Side Irish American Club, TOPS Amherst, Wellington Golden Agers, and the Eleanor Roosevelt Democratic Club.
She was known as "Aunt Jane" by all, even to the point of having her car repair bills at the former Whitney's Shell Service Station filed under "A" for Aunt Jane. Ultimately, she was known for always putting the needs of those she loved ahead of her own. She has countless nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends whose lives were enriched by her love and support and who will miss her dearly.
Continuing a family tradition of taking in stray animals, she insisted on feeding stray cats and the occasional possum. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your local animal shelter.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Wellington, OH with Father Trask officiating. A reception will immediately follow at the Wellington Reservation Welcome Center meeting room, 535 Jones Road, Wellington, OH 44090.
