Jay Jackson Lowther, Sr., 61, a lifelong resident of Wellington, died Tuesday, June 13, 2023. Born on May 21, 1962 in Oberlin, he was the son of the late James and Marjorie (nee Stanfield) Lowther. Jay was a 1980 graduate of Wellington High School.

Jay began his career for the Village of Wellington in the street department right out of high school. He retired from Wellington's wastewater management department after 30 years. Following retirement, he began working for North Olmsted wastewater. Jay, who loved to work, also worked at Findley State Park and the Wellington Bowling Alley when he was younger. He served on the Wellington Volunteer Fire Department for several years as well. Jay was a jack of all trades though a master of none. Jay also enjoyed horticulture and was currently building new flowerbeds.

Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Leanna (nee Sherwood) Lowther; children, Eddie (Amanda) Buchanan Jr, of Columbus, Janet Buchanan, of Vermilion, and Rebecca Lowther, of Wellington; grandchildren, Alex, Damon, Noah, Griffin, Sierra, and Nathan; siblings, James (Teri) Lowther, of Sheffield Lake, and Jack (Lisa) Lowther, of Vermilion. Jay was preceded in death by his son Jay Jackson "J.J." Lowther Jr., and his mother and step-father-in-law, Belva and Charlie Jones.

Friends and family will be received on Friday, June 16, from 4-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St, Wellington, where services will be held on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. Rev.
