Jean L. Cooke, age 92, of New London, died February 21, 2012. She was born April 6, 1919 in Fitchville Township. The daughter of the late Arthur and Mildred (Knowlton) Marett, she attended Fitchville school for eight years and graduated from New London High School in 1937. She married her high school sweetheart, Harold F. Cooke on April 9, 1939 and they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in 2005. They lived in New London their entire lives. Jean worked for the Ben Franklin Store, Rotary Printing Company, and was secretary for the C.E. Ward Company and the Village of New London. She was a member of the New London United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women's Association, and was a long time member of the Birthday Club in New London. She is survived by five children, daughters, Darlaine (Richard) Nestor of Norwalk, Joan (Tom) Nichols of New London and sons, Bill (Suzanne) Cooke of New London, Steven (Susan) Cooke of Cape Coral, FL, and Larry (Melanie) Cooke of Columbus, OH; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and brothers, Ronald J. Marett of Birmingham, OH and George K. (Belle) Marett of the Philippines. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold on November 6, 2005; one brother, Clarence A. Marett in 1932 and one grandson, Craig R. Cooke in 1969. Friends may call from noon until the 1 p.m. service on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the New London United Methodist Church, 58 East Main St., New London with Pastor Cheryl Roshon officiating.
